The Learning @ Work Project
New Round of Innovative Projects

The future of the Dublin Labour Market is at risk without upskilling. Very few programmes exist which target young people in employment who have a low level of education.

The innovative Learning at Work Project aims to tackle this problem.

Community sector online

Under our Equal at Work programme the DEP developed trade union organisation across the community sector as well as a Community Sector Employers’ Forum.

The services to employers includes an on line HR advisory system at www.erb.ie

Pioneers of Diversity
Conference showcases model equality strategies

David Goggin, Meteor, with Caroline Casey & Philip O'Connor

Caroline Casey chaired the Dublin Employment Pact’s ‘Equal at Work’ seminar on 1st October in Dublin. The seminar showcased private sector companies involved in the Employment Pact Equal at Work project.

Irish Life & Permanent, Eircom, Jury's Custom House Inn and Meteor Mobile participated in a range of projects.

The activities included equality reviews of all HR policies and practices to the development of an online HR decision making system.


 
O2 Ability Winners

The stars were out at the O2 Ability Awards this year, where Eircom and Irish Life & Permanent picked up awards. They all took part in the Equal at Work HR initiative led by the Dublin Employment Pact.

Community ICT Initiative
Awards in Ballymun

The Department of the Taoiseach has awarded €800,000 through its ASC Project to the DEP to implement the Dublin Community ICT Initiative.

This will deliver IT upskilling through community group peer trainers to over 2,000 people and also establish ICT centres in public authority senior citizen homes and centres of excellence in disability accommodation.


 
Creative Cities
Dr Richard Florida

International urban strategist Richard Florida, author of The Rise of the Creative Class, addressed the cutting edge seminar Dublin - Creative City Region, on 18th October in the capital. The event was hosted by Dublin Regional Authority & Dublin Employment Pact.

National and international experts outlined how globalisation would favour city regions which put creativity at the centre of their education, development and economic strategies.

Speakers from Department of the Taoiseach, the City Council and other groups set out how Irish policy makers were preparing to respond to this challenge. Seminar papers are available on www.dublinpact.ie

Since 1998 Dublin Employment Pact has been working to improve labour market access and tackle educational disadvantage. 

DEP is funded under the National Development Plan through Pobal.

Metropolis.net
Linking social inclusion in cities across Europe


DEP has joined similar agencies from across Europe in establishing a European Economic Interest Group entitled Metropolis.Net to collaborate at European level on employment and social inclusion strategies.

The ‘Equal at Work’ seminar on 1st October also saw the launch of a cutting edge report called Pioneers of Diversity: A Comparative Analysis of Equality Reviews
