Partnership & Futurism
Where will we be 25 years from now?

The partnership process has produced some wonderful offshoots. One of these is the "Futures Ireland" project of the National Economic & Social Council.

This involves delving into the "stories" of people who are engaged in various aspects of Irish society. It then uses the stories to construct pictures of where Ireland will be twenty five years from now.

Social enterprise alive and well
Fresh approach seminar - 18th September

The Dublin Partnership Learning Network (DPLN) is holding a key development seminar on social enterprise. This will link in with new research being conducted by Dublin Employment Pact and Clann Credo aimed at creating a concrete strategy for social enterprise in the Dublin region.

Minister commends the Dublin Community ICT Programme

Joyce O'Connor (Chair, Digital Hub) and Philip O'Connor (CEO, DEP)During the summer DEP launched the Evaluation Report on the impact of it's very successful "Dublin Community ICT Programme".

At the launch, Minister of State and Government Chief Whip, Pat Carey TD and Joyce O'Connor (Chair, Digital Hub) commended the work of the programme. Both saw the ICT Programme as the way to go in terms of bringing ICT skills to wider circles of people outside the formal education system.

"The programme - on a budget of €800,000 - delivered eCert training to 2,300 people through 85 community groups across Dublin and fitted out or upgraded ICT Equipment in nearly 30 community centres, centres for independent living, senior citixens flat complexes and other facilities."

EAPN challenges EU Commission comments

European Anti-Poverty Network Ireland (EAPN) employment working group met recently with the "Dáil Committee on Enterprise, Trade & Employment" to discuss the EU Commission’s comments on Ireland’s Second Progress Report on the National Reform Programme (NRP).

The group raised particular issues of concern that they felt needed to be addressed to ensure Ireland’s socio-economic inclusion is greatly enhanced.

Mary Mallon,
Director of Community and Enterprise in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council was elected chair of the DEP. Mary has many years experience in community development and has been a board member since 2003.
