Tours
Sustainable Tourism Initiative Launched In Temple Bar TASCQ (Traders in the Area Supporting the Cultural Quarter) – a traders group in Temple Bar - have launched the Official Walking Tour of Dublin’s Cultural Quarter as part of a sustainable tourism enterprise for the area. The tour, which lasts a little over an hour, costs €10 and all funds received will be invested back into environmental services to green and clean the area.
Over 40,000 people visit Temple Bar everyday, yet many are unfamiliar with the deep history associated with the area. According to well known Dublin historian, Pat Liddy, the history of Temple Bar is the history of Dublin itself.
Highlights of the tour include a visit to the first Viking settlements and a walk around the medieval Old City, where Isolde’s Tower is located – the tower which marked the northeast corner of the Old City of Dublin. Other tour highlights include the site of O’Neal’s Music Hall, where the first performance of Handel’s Messiah took place, Kevin Barry House, where the young republican grew up and the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre, where visitors can view the Daniel O’Connell death mask.
Tours start from the Temple Bar Information Centre at 12 East Essex Street and run Monday to Saturday, at 11.00 a.m., 1.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. Sunday tours start at 1.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. All tour guides are registered with FIGI, (the Association of Approved Tourist Guides of Ireland) and are professionally trained and insured.
