One of the nation’s top technology leaders and two area entrepreneurs were honored at the Fourth Annual Information Technology Awards reception given byThe Fox School of Business and Management on May 3rd, 2004.
George Nolen, president and CEO of Siemens USA, received The Fox 2004 Information Technology Leader Award, and Paul Russell and James Sheward, co-founders of Fiberlink Communications Corporations jointly received The Fox 2004 Information Technology Innovator Award at the event, organized by The Fox School’s Department of Management Information Systems (MIS), Irwin L. Gross eBusiness Institute (eBI), and the Association for Computing Machinery in partnership with TechWORKS Foundation.
“These awards recognize outstanding role models in industry for our students--leaders and innovators who are creating new business opportunities by guiding the use and development of IT in business,” said Munir Mandviwalla, chair of the MIS department and executive director of the Irwin L. Gross eBusiness Institute.
“George Nolen has been responsible for leading Siemens USA into one of the foremost IT-centric firms in the nation today. Paul Russell and James Sheward are showing that innovation and entrepreneurship in information technology can lead to continuous growth and profitability for firms in the Pennsylvania region.”
In his role as president and CEO, George Nolen leads the 65,000 Siemens employees of the $16.6 billion U.S. company. He is also chairman of the board of Siemens One and is on the board of the Siemens Foundation, which is dedicated to the support of technology education in America’s high schools.
Since co-founding Fiberlink in 1991, Paul Russell, chairman & co-founder, and James Sheward, chief executive officer, co-founder and director, have created the company's vision, built a topnotch management team, and secured the funding that has enabled Fiberlink to become a leading provider of managed Internet-based virtual private networks.

The Fox School’s Department of MIS focuses on research and teaching in the use, management and development of organizational information systems. The department serves approximately 600 majors at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The Irwin L. Gross eBusiness Institute enables integrative business technology education and research by organizing professional development events, workshops, forums and other activities.
