Reasons The Princeton Review cited for the distinction — 20th most entrepreneurial campus in the nation — are the annual Women’s Entrepreneurship conference, co-sponsored by The Fox School of Business and Management, the School of Tourism and Hospitality and the School of Communications and Theater; and the Business Innovation Competition, sponsored by The Fox School of Business and Management’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute.

This year’s Business Innovation Competition, which awards cash prizes to students and helps them develop their ideas for market, received more than 150 ideas submitted from seven different schools: The Fox School of Business, the School of Medicine, the School of Engineering, the School of Communications and Theater, the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Science and Technology.

The Fox School sponsors many entrepreneurial initiatives at Temple. Said M. Moshe Porat, dean of The Fox School, “Entrepreneurship and innovation is one of our key tenets. In the hopes of creating the next Frank Baldino [of Cephalon Inc.] and Dennis Alter [of Advanta Corporation], both Temple alumni, Fox incorporates entrepreneurial thinking throughout its curriculum.”

Important to the teaching of entrepreneurship is the Global Entrepreneurship Consulting Practicum (GET), a key component of The Fox School’s highly ranked International M.B.A. program (top 20 in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report), in which student teams develop business plans for real, global, entrepreneurial companies and then present those plans to angel investors and venture capitalists. The GET program is currently being expanded to the full-time M.B.A. program.

Other key initiatives at Fox this year include the creation of the Ronald O. Perelman Professorship in Entrepreneurial Finance (endowed by Howard Gittis, chairman of the Board of Trustees), the addition of a new professional journal (the Journal of Product Innovation Management) and the hiring of a new executive director, Chris Pavlides, (who is also CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group) for the school’s award-winning Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Also, Fox’s entrepreneurship program was recently ranked as one of the top 50 entrepreneurship programs in the nation, according to Entrepreneur magazine.
