Welcome to the very first issue of the EuroSTAR Newsletter.
I am excited to announce that each month I will bring you a variety of articles from some of the industry's leading visionaries in Software Testing. I also look forward to keeping you up to date with all the latest EuroSTAR news and events.

EuroSTAR have been bringing Europe’s software testing professionals together for 14 years. There have been many changes and developments in that time. I would like to share your stories and knowledge with the European testing community to ensure we are kept informed of new industry trends and learn from one another’s experience. If you would like to contribute your ideas feel free to submit your articles to me at susan@qualtechconferences.com

As you may have noticed our newsletter has yet to be given a name. After some thought I figured who better to name our newsletter than you, the reader…! Please email your newsletter title suggestion to me at susan@qualtechconferences.com
The winning entry will be announced in the May issue.

Susan McAndrewAt EuroSTAR we value the opinions of the testing community. Your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. Keep in touch with me and help me make sure each issue brings with it some insight to improve those testing days!

Kind Regards,

It’s About People!
Jens Pas, I2B, Belgium by Jens Pas, I2B, Belgium
Dear Tester,
Let me first thank all those who have submitted a numerous amount of presentation proposals. A team of twenty reviewers and a Program Committee have helped me out processing all this material. Ready to Ship? – Using Release Readiness Metrics
John Fodeh, Oticon, Denmark by John Fodeh, Oticon, Denmark
The inevitable question in any software project is "Are we ready to ship"?
To answer this question you need to determine your completion criteria. Some organisations operate with a single criterion; a fixed release date (usually complemented with a subjective "gut-feel"). Using this criterion is straightforward; you need only a calendar, a good portion of self-confidence and lots of optimism. A more professional approach involves additional completion criteria that are related to quality attributes of the product, namely does your product meet the specified level of quality? The tricky part in software development is reaching the predetermined quality level before running out of time. Unlike the date, quality attributes are much more challenging to measure and use. This article describes some ideas for establishing release readiness metrics, and how to enhance your gut-feel with solid and objective measures.
