Testing In A Quasi-Agileč Software Development Environment
by Timothy Korson, QualSys Solutions, USA

Timothy Korson’s Tutorial: Testing in A Quasi-Agile Software Development Environment, will take place on Monday 3rd December at EuroSTAR 2007, Stockholm.

What! No Update or Delete?

Figure 1 illustrates the philosophy taught in many software engineering courses. It reflects a widespread “head in the sand,” mistaken belief about the way software systems can be developed.

How To Develop A Reliable Test Effort Estimation

by Ruud Teunissen, Polteq IT Services, The Netherlands

Ruud Teunissen’s Tutorial: How to Develop A Reliable Test Effort Estimation, will take place on Tuesday 4th December at EuroSTAR 2007, Stockholm.

Setting up test plans, defining a strategy, selecting test design techniques - these activities are not a problem for most of us. Sticking to the plan and executing what we promised, that’s harder, sometimes even impossible. But if we have to estimate the required effort for all testing activities, we somehow are not so confident anymore. We refer to the “industry standards”, “experiences in similar projects” or a “predefined percentage of the project budget”.
The positive side of this approach to test effort estimation is that it’s hard to dispute. So, if your project manager tries to cut your budget, the industry standard of 35% usually saves you. But what if you feel the project needs 40%?

A Rapid Introduction To Rapid Software Testing
by Michael Bolton, DevelopSense, Canada

Michael Bolton’s Tutorial: A Rapid Introduction to Rapid Software Testing, will take place on Monday 3rd December at EuroSTAR 2007, Stockholm.

At the Quality Week conference in San Francisco in 2001, Cem Kaner mentioned that I should introduce myself to James Bach. I did. “Hi, James. I’m Michael Bolton. I teach software testing.” He replied “Hi, Michael, Cem’s told me a lot about you. What do you think is the hardest thing about teaching software testing?”

The 2007 Testing Excellence Award

The "European Testing Excellence Award" is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of software testing within Europe.

EuroSTAR believes there is a need for an award which recognises leadership and contribution in the field of software testing. An award will provide focus to the contribution testing processes and principles make to the success of the products and services in the Information Technology Industry.
A testing excellence award will serve as a vehicle to build a knowledge base of approaches, solutions and the benefits of implementing testing solutions.
We encourage you to think about your colleagues, teachers and mentors within the software testing community, and take the time to nominate someone who has inspired or motivated you or through their work has made your work easier! Lets reward the people that give their time, energy and full commitment to the world of software testing. The submission details are all explained on our web site, so have a read and then tell us all about your testing hero.

Submit your nomination before October 31st. Click Here for full details.
