Issue 20   November 6, 2007

Welcome to the November issue of the STAR Tester. As this is the last issue before EuroSTAR 2007, I must remind all those attending to ensure your flights and hotel have been booked and confirmed. We have a list of recommended hotels available on our website as a guide.

The deadline for this year’s Testing Excellence Award nominations is this Friday 9th of November. The winner will be announced on Thursday 6th December at the Gala Awards Dinner in the Vasa Museum, Stockholm. This event has been extremely popular and has already sold out. There is no doubt this will be a magical evening!

Our final EuroSTAR Webinar for 2007 will take place on Thursday the 15th of November. Titled: ‘Regulating Professional Competence: How do we know we are fit to practice software testing?’ presented by Isabel Evans, Testing Solutions Group, UK. Register Today to attend the last in this year’s series of webinars.

I am thrilled to announce that we have a record number of delegates registered at this point and EuroSTAR 2007 looks set to be the largest EuroSTAR Conference to date!
Don’t miss out on your chance to be part of Europe’s largest gathering of testing professionals – Register Now!

I look forward to meeting many of you in Stockholm next month and wish all those travelling a safe and pleasant journey.

Kind regards,

Susan McAndrew

Forensic Software Engineering:Taking the Guesswork Out of Testing
by Les Hatton, Kingston University, UK

Les Hatton's Keynote 'Forensic Software Engineering: Taking the Guesswork out of Testing' will take place on Thursday 6th December at EuroSTAR, 2007.

The talk accompanying this paper is about two things. First, it is about the need for objective levels of confidence in the way we do experiments in computing and the way we analyse the results. Second, it is about searching for patterns when you don't really know what you are looking for.

TMap® Next For Result Driven Testing

by Michiel Vroon, Sogeti, The Netherlands

Michiel Vroon's Tutorial 'Business Driven Test Management With TMap® Next' will take place on Tuesday 4th December at EuroSTAR 2007, Stockholm.

Today’s challenges
In today’s challenging business climate, organisations put more focus on getting the maximum business value from their software. Consequently, rapid delivery and software quality continue to become more important, and the risks of insufficient software quality increase. Based on this insight, organisations can make informed decisions on whether to take software into operation. With proper testing, organisations can make better decisions and effectively manage risk.

Spotlight on the Mini-Track Sessions

This year’s EuroSTAR programme contains six exciting Mini-Track Sessions. These 20 minute sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for testers who have not previously spoken at EuroSTAR. As the speaking time is half of that of a traditional track session, the pressure and anxiety is considerably reduced. I advise those of you who are joining me at EuroSTAR, to attend at least one of these sessions throughout the conference week. It might just inspire the speaker inside of you during the Call For Papers 2008!
