Issue 21   December 18, 2007

Welcome to the final issue of the STAR Tester for 2007. As the year end approaches, I am pleased at the success we have experienced over the last 12 months through both our online resources and the record number of attendees at EuroSTAR 2007 in Stockholm.

I would like to thank all those who contributed in ensuring EuroSTAR remains Europe’s premier software testing event - Stuart Reid for his discussion provoking conference theme, outstanding programme and help in so many areas throughout the year - The speakers, who put forward their thoughts, opinions and experiences. Without their participation the success of the conferences would not be possible. To the sponsors and exhibitors who took part in this year’s exceptional Test Tool and Services Exhibition, each year they continue to impress us with their presence.

Last but definitely not least I would like to thank each and every delegate who played their role in bringing over 900 testers together for this action packed week. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and feedback.

EuroSTAR 2008 will take place during the 10th-13th November in the Hague, Netherlands.  The Call For Papers will be announced in January and as the conference is slightly earlier this year, I encourage you to submit as soon as possible to ensure you make the deadline of March 7th 2008. Please see the introduction below from the EuroSTAR 2008 Programme Chair, Bob van de Burgt, for further details.
Feel free to contact me at susan@qualtechconferences.com regarding the submission of articles or to discuss newsletter sponsorship for 2008.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Kind regards,

Susan McAndrew
Editor

Developing The Profession – What Next?
by Isabel Evans, TSG, UK

Following my keynote at EuroSTAR, a number of people wanted to know, “What do we do next to develop the profession?” and other people saying to me, “We have already started on this by…” so here are just some of the
ideas and some of the projects already underway which you could join.

How EDM Helps Businesses Optimise Their Application

by Warren Daniels, Marketing Manager Nothern Europe and South Africa, Princeton Softech

Businesses today are under pressure to cut costs while continuing to maintain the systems, programs and applications that support their day-to-day activities. In this context, periodically reviewing the application portfolio can help by pinpointing underperforming or redundant systems where maintenance outweighs business value. According to analysts, Forrester Research, early practitioners of application portfolio management (APM) have reported 10-30 per cent reductions in maintenance costs and return on investment within 12 months. This strategy for managing enterprise applications makes sense in an environment where businesses are expected to drive revenue opportunities and deliver high-quality customer service at consistently lower costs.
