Greetings from the STAR Tester and best wishes for 2008! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the break. It’s back to business here as preparations get underway for EuroSTAR 2008 in The Hague.
This month’s newsletter contains the Call for Papers 2008. This year’s Programme Chair -Bob van de Burgt, has chosen a theme which I think will appeal to many of you and will stir up some great ideas. Full details of this year’s Call for Papers are available below with a link to the Speaker Application Form. The submission deadline is Friday March 7th. Please ensure you submit early to avoid missing the deadline.

 EuroSTAR 2008 – “The Future of Software Testing”
The Hague, 10th – 13th November 2008
EuroSTAR is a truly international software testing conference, attracting delegates and speakers from around the world. Last year in Stockholm over 1000 delegates, from 38 countries, attended the conference.
In the last few years we have witnessed an increasing professionalism in testing creating a new type of tester; the “technical tester”, one who specializes in focused areas of software testing, e.g. automation, security, usability, performance, etc. It will be interesting to see whether business change, technology and process improvement will make this obsolete or create further areas of specialization.

Best Paper Winner - EuroSTAR 2007

Zeger van Hese, CTG, Belgium presented a mini track titled, ‘Software Testing: A Profession of Paradoxes?’ at EuroSTAR 2007. His accompanying white paper won him the prestigious Best Paper Award at the fabulous Gala Awards Dinner held in the Vasa Museum on Thursday, 6th December. Zeger has kindly written a short introduction and has given us permission to include both this and the winning paper in this month’s issue.

 Holland’s Royal City has a rich history and tradition. It never fails to impress visitors with its elegant atmosphere, broad tree lined avenues, boutiques, castles and of course the Dutch Parliament. The Hague is a great place for a holiday. With its many cultural events it is a pleasure to visit The Hague (Den Haag), Scheveningen and Kijkduin any time of the year. So close to town, the wide beaches and the vast North Sea invite you to sunbathe or take an invigorating walk.
