Welcome to the February issue of the STAR Tester. Unfortunately we have not seen any signs of spring approaching here in the west of Ireland, forecasts of snow have been far more frequent!
In this month's issue I bring you a snapshot of the EuroSTAR 2008 Programme Committee. This year’s Programme Chair, Bob van de Burgt has handpicked his committee to assist him in putting together an exciting programme for 2008. I hope these individual introductions will help you get to know them a little better.
This issue also contains the results of the Interactive Audience Survey which took place at EuroSTAR 2007. I would like to extend my thanks to Dorothy Graham and Mark Fewster who ran this session and compiled the results. Ever wondered what percentage of those who attend EuroSTAR hold a testing qualification or what is the ratio of testers to developers within most companies? Or perhaps what is the most popular hobby amongst testers... We have the answers! Please see the article below for full details.
Many of you who are familiar with EuroSTAR are aware of important dates in our calendar. However, as EuroSTAR 2008 is taking place a number of weeks earlier than previous conferences; I would like to draw your attention to the important dates below.

Testing of the NHS Spine – Building of A World Class Capability

Kevin presented a track session based on this topic at EuroSTAR 2007, which was the highest scoring track session as voted by delegates in Stockholm.
BT has long been perceived as an organisation whose business is centred on the provision of telecommunications equipment and facilities, ranging from the telephone services and equipment to the iconic BT Tower in London and the Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station.
However, in recent years the BT Global Services division has grown within the developing digital network economy to provide large-scale and complex systems integration transformations. A shining example of this is BT’s involvement in the creation, delivery and management of the National Care Records database for the NHS - known as the Spine – soon to be one of the world's largest transactional databases.
