TIM School Dean Jamieson Joins International Tourism Advisory Units
TIM School Dean Walter Jamieson recently was named to the Education Committee of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the leader of and authority on Pacific Asia travel and tourism.  PATA is an ‘Association of Leaders for Leaders’ with a membership of over 1,100 organizations including governments, air and cruise lines, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and other tourism-related corporations and companies, educational institutions, financial and consultancy services and media. Walter Jamieson also was appointed to the PATA Industry Council. 
 
The PATA Education Committee addresses ongoing human resource development (HRD) needs of PATA members, considers educational opportunities and new HRD initiatives.  It also assesses the supply of relevant HRD programs to serve PATA members and evaluates, creates and recommends education and training institutions and programs in the region and globally.  The PATA Industry Council oversees the interests of PATA industry and associate-members in relation to PATA’s goals and provides industry and associate representation on the Board of Directors.
 
Walter Jamieson also was recently asked to be a charter member of the Academic Advisory Panel (AAP), an international group of education leaders in hospitality, sustainable tourism, research and training.  The Panel has been established to strengthen the relationship between the hotel, travel, tourism industry and education and research.  The AAP’s main goal is to work with th leading academics in sharing, documenting and communicating best practices to the future leaders of the hotel, travel and tourism industry.  The International Tourism Partnership (ITP) recognizes that it has much to gain from the participation of the academic community and the AAP is seen as central to its strategy.
